What makes a bag smell proof?
Two things decide whether a bag holds in smells: what it's made of, and how well it seals.
The material. Ordinary plastic bags are slightly porous, so odours slowly pass through them. Mylar bags have an aluminium lining that acts as a barrier against smell, air, moisture and light.
The seal. Even the best material won't help if air can escape through the top. A ziplock pressed closed along its whole length keeps the bag airtight for everyday use. For the most secure seal, our bags can also be heat sealed above the ziplock.

Tips for keeping smells sealed in
Heat seal for the strongest seal. Run a heat sealer across the bag just above the ziplock. That gives you a fully airtight seal that also shows if the bag has been opened. Once you cut it open, the ziplock still works for resealing.
Close the seal fully. Run your fingers along the whole ziplock, end to end. A small gap at one corner is the most common reason a bag lets smells out.
Keep the zip clean. Crumbs or dust in the zip track can stop it closing properly.
Don't overfill. Leave a little room at the top so the seal can close flat. Our mylar bag size guide explains how much space to leave.
Store bags somewhere cool and dry. Mylar resists moisture and heat, but a stable environment helps contents stay fresher for longer.

Frequently asked questions
Are smell proof bags really smell proof?
Mylar bags are very effective at keeping smells in when they're sealed properly. Make sure the ziplock is fully closed along its whole length, and keep the zip track clean.
Can I heat seal the bags?
Yes. Use a heat sealer to seal across the bag just above the ziplock. To open it, cut below the heat seal, and the ziplock will still reseal as normal.
Are the bags reusable?
Yes. The ziplock is resealable, so you can open and close the bags many times.
How many bags are in a pack?
Every pack contains 100 bags.
What size are the bags?
